Guest Designer | Laura Vegas

We are thrilled to introduce our special Guest Designer - Laura Vegas and we know you are going to love Laura's beautiful designs using the Hello collection.
Tell us a few things about yourself:
I live in sunny California with my husband Joe, and two daughters, Alyssa (21) and Sarah (19). I work full time in my home as a daycare provider, and try to squeeze my paper crafting hobbies into whatever downtime I can find during my days. I've been scrapbooking for well over 24 years now, and while the formats I use and how I document our memories has changed a lot over the years, the process of documenting our lives is still as important as ever to me. In addition to working and crafting, I love organizing and re-organizing anything and everything around the house, relaxing days with family and friends, and trying to keep up with the insane amount of television shows that I'm slightly addicted too!

What Doodlebug product did you enjoy using the most?
I really love the Odds & Ends and Chit Chat die cuts! I was pleasantly surprised at how many pieces were in each package, and all of the great sizes and variety of designs there were to work with.

Three fun facts about yourself:
1. I'm the world's worst procrastinator by far. I am constantly trying to work ahead and avoid putting things off, and yet you'll always find me stressing at the very last possible minute to check things off my to-do lists.
2. You can usually find me working on about 17 projects at once. I get easily distracted, and jump from project to project without even realizing it sometimes. More than likely, I'm jumping around and starting new things in order to avoid the project/thing that I actually need to get done ;)
3. I'm a total night owl and always have been. It doesn't matter how early I have to get up in the morning, I will still stay up as late as possible most nights. And I regret it every morning. It's a good thing I don't require much sleep in order to full function!

"Sweet Girls" layout
As soon as I saw the Hello collection, I feel in love with it! The colors are so bright and colorful, and they are all colors that I love to work with. I knew right away that this collection would be perfect for documenting a favorite photo of my girls and I, taken back on Mother's Day 2017.

There are so many great flower die cuts in the Odds & Ends package, and I thought it would be fun to create a floral border going from the top of the page to the bottom. I started by adhering my photo and a few pieces of patterned paper on the right side of the page, and then started arranging the flower die cuts alongside, tucking them under the edge of the photo and patterned paper.

I combined one of the Chit Chat word die cuts with a word cut using my Silhouette machine for my title, and added a few additional stickers, flowers, and banner pieces to finish off the page.
Supplies:
Hello Collection: Beautiful Blooms, Hello There, Sitting Pretty, This & That stickers, Odds & Ends die cuts, Chit Chat die cuts, Glitter Sprinkles. Petite Prints Collection: Blue Jean Gingham Linen, Swimming Pool Gingham Linen

"Hello Sunshine" layout
I love a good girl themed collection, as I have not only two girls of my own, but a ton of adorable little girls that I've had the pleasure of watching over the years as a home daycare provider. I have a few favorite photos of one girl in particular that I've been wanting to use on a layout, and the Hello collection was perfect for doing just that.

I printed my photos as 3x3's and 3x4's, and set out to create a grid of photos and patterned paper along the outside edges of the page. This left me with a 6x6" area in the center of the page for my title and journaling. I added some cute die cuts and word/phrase stickers to a few of the patterned paper blocks, using pop dots for a little dimension.

Supplies:
Hello Collection: Poppy Plaid, Sitting Pretty, Tickled Pink, Lovely, Hello There, Garden Party, Beautiful Blooms, This & That stickers, Odds & Ends die cuts, Chit Chat die cuts, Glitter Sprinkles. Petite Prints Collection: Blue Jean Gingham Linen, Bumblebee Gingham Linen

Quick & Simple Cards
There are so many cute die cuts in the Odds & Ends package, and I just knew they would make for some fun quick and simple cards.
I pulled out some of the larger die cuts - the house, the typewriter, a phone, bouquet of flowers, vase of of flowers, a bike, and a scooter - and matched each die cut up with a sentiment from the Chit Chat die cuts.

I then set to work picking out two coordinating patterned papers for each card. I added a little machine stitching to each card, and adhered all of the die cut pieces with pop dots for a little dimension. These cards came together in no time at all.

  2. This is my favorite collection too for all the same reasons you stated. You have inspired me to buy anadditional Hello collection pack while it is still available. I like the way you journaled on the same white linen paper as the background which you had splotched. Great effect! I am a big fan of machine stitching but m having difficulty finding a machine I like for this. What machine do you prefer? Thanks.

    1. Thank you so much! My sewing machine just died on me after 10 years, and I recently bought a new one. Both were inexpensive Singer machines, bought at Target for under $100, and I've had great luck with both.
