MY HAPPY PLACE BIRTHDAY CARD | with Kathy

The new My Happy Place Collection is so much fun!  The colors, the icons.... and the cut files!  If you know me, you know I love Doodlebug's cut files, and When I saw the Bird in Cage file I immediately had an idea for a fun box card.  Take a peek....

I turned the flat birdcage into a 3D shape, where the little birdie hangs down!  In addition to using some papers from the collection, I also added some of the flowers from the Bits & Pieces pack.  These flowers are perfect to embellish just about anything!  I also used the perfectly punny sentiment from the Chit Chat pack.

To make the cage stand up, I added 2 thin strips of cardstock, folded into a box shape to the top and bottom of the cage pieces, then I layered the back piece of the cage so they were centered. To attach the bird, I glued a strip the same thickness as the top and bottom boxes and about 1" wider than the folded box.  I scored glued the bird and his perch to the center, then folded back about 1/2" on each side of the strip and glued the folded sections to the side of the box on the top.  This way he hangs freely.

Since the top and bottom "box strips" are centered and the same size, the card can fold flat for mailing.  I thought this would also make a darling anniversary or wedding card.  You could create another birdie, mirror image and add it to the perch with his friend!

DOWN ON THE FARM BOX CARD | with Wanda

Howdy everyone! Wanda here, with another fun project made with the Down on the Farm Collection! Have you enjoyed all the farm projects? It's really great to work with an older collection and bring it back with some fresh and new ideas. All the elements and images in this collection are so happy and fun. Today I decided to make a Pop-Up Birthday card with that adorable barn and a cute cow and some chickens! Happy Birthday to MOOOOOO! This card came together easily with a Pop-Up card die, and the Chit Chat and Odds & Ends packs. I custom made an envelope, and this card fits flat for mailing or giving.

50

Here's a top down view of the card so you can see all the different papers and elements. I used green gingham for the 'ground' pieces and that pretty buffalo check for the outer shell of the card. I placed the barn in the back first, then the fence in front. Then I mixed and matched pieces until I got just the right look!

50

One tip - use a white gel pen on your design pieces to add a bit of a highlight!

50

This is the back of the card - with that sweet sentiment!

50

The whole card folds flat! You can put it right into an envelope. In this case, the barn and sun extend over the back of the card base. Because of that, I needed a bigger envelope. If you keep the elements inside the outer area of the card die then it would fit into an A2 envelope. It's fine with me, because I love to make custom, matching envelopes with the same papers from my cards.

50

Here is my fun envelope! It's a 6" x 6" square envelope. There's extra room so it doesn't get squished! I used the same cow and chickens on the envelope so it is totally custom.

50

I made a little envelope seal too!

As always, it's lovely to spend a little time with you here on the Doodlebug Blog! I'll be back soon! Until then, keep on crafting!

LAND THAT I LOVE BOX CARD | with Kathy

I love the 4th of July.  We usually get together with friends to celebrate and watch the fireworks on our boat.  It's always such a great time !  So of when I got a chance to play with some Land That I Love collection I thought it would be fun to create a fireworks card.  Take a peek...

For the base of my card I altered one of Lori Whitlock's Envelope Box Card Files.   I made the base from some of the Hip Hop Hooray and the graph side of the America the Beautiful papers. Then I started to work decorating it!

For the fireworks I combined stickers from both the Icon and Mini Icon sheets.  I love that they are different sizes!  The flags are from the Odds & Ends Pack.

And of course I had to have someone setting off the fireworks!  I love the little Sammy eagle DoodlePop... I thought he added the perfect amount of dimension and his little beak is adorable..  I have him holding one of the fireworks from the Firecrackers DoodlePops.  Yes, I used DoodlePops!  Usually I just like to hoard them!

For my sentiment I combined the July 4th from the Mini Icon Stickers and the happy sticker from the This and That Sheet.

Now if I remember to mail the card I'll be in good shape!  In celebration of the 4th of July, I'm having a fun Doodlebug Giveaway over on my Instagram account... @ekskou.  Head on over to enter to win a Land that I love prize!  If you've created any projects with Land that I Love, be sure to tag Doodlebug Design on Facebook and Instagram, we love to see what you make!  That's it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek!

GHOST TOWN BOX CARD | with Kathy

I'm so excited to be kicking off a couple of weeks of Ghost Town inspiration!  Doodlebug Halloween Collections are always some of my favorites!  The little critters and icons are always so stinkin' adorable!  When I saw the little pumpkin patch stand image in the Odds & Ends pack, I knew it would make the cutest little box card.  Take a peek...

The little stand is made from the black side of the Moonlight Magic Cardstock.  The awning was pieced together using the 6x6 versions of the Hoppy Halloween and Treat Yourself papers.  I made the sign using one of the sentiment strips from the Chit Chat Pieces.

Of course I HAD to add one of the cute little Spider Celebration Shaped Sprinkles.  The spider web is from the Icon Sticker Sheet.

I then went to work adding the sweet little Odds & Ends! The pumpkins are just adorable and of COURSE I had to add the little black kitty!!

I had a hard time narrowing down my choice of Odds & Ends!  Be sure keep checking the blog for all new Ghost Town inspiration!  And if you've used Ghost Town in any of your projects, be sure to tag Doodlebug Design on Facebook and Instagram so we can see!  That's it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek.

BAR-B-CUTE PICNIC BOX CARD | with Kathy

There's something special about a picnic... yummy food, outside in the fresh air, with friends!  That's what inspired this fun box card.  Even better, this picnic has no calories!  Take a peek...

I filled my basket with a bunch of the food icons from the Bar-B-Cute Odds & Ends pack, I just love the smiles, they really make me happy!    I used the red & white check paper from the 6x6 pad for my table cloth, and the sentiment is from the Chit Chat Pieces.  Here's a close-up...

And of course I had to complete the look with an ant from the Picnic Parade Sprinkles.  They are the only ants that don't require a call to the exterminator!

LAND THAT I LOVE SHADOWBOX CARD | with Kathy

The Fourth of July will be here before we know it!   Most of the fireworks around where I live have been cancelled, but I was able to make may own using the Land that I Love Collection.  Take a peek...

I altered the base of this shadow box card from Lori Whitlock to make the base of the card.  I covered the outside of the card with the fireworks side of the Summer Celebration paper.  For the night sky inside, I used the Hip Hip Hooray paper.

Inside the card, I added some of the fireworks Odds & Ends pieces along with stickers from the Icons sheet in the shadow box.  I love the dimension of a shadow box card, it looks like a night sky full of lights!

To finish  I popped out the cute little eagle on the front and added a firework sticker from the Icons sheet to his "wing" so it looks like he's setting off more fireworks.  I also added the sentiment banner from the set.  The best part of this card is it folds flat for mailing.  Have you made any projects using the new Land That I Love Collection?  Be sure to tag Doodlebug Design on Facebook and Instagram, we love to see your creations!  That's it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek!

LAND THAT I LOVE | Geranium Box Card

Doodlebug's 4th of July Collections are always among my favorites and Land that I Love does not disappoint! I especially love the little icons in the collection.  When I saw the cute little Geranium with the flag, I immediately thought it would make a really fun box card, so that's what I made!

How sweet is that little smiley face on the plant pot??  I love the patterns in this collection.  They are of course perfect for patriotic projects, but they can also be used for other projects as well!  I combined them with some petite prints to complete the look.  And I just had to add some sprinkles!  The little star sprinkles are perfect.
I finished the card with the Hooray for the Red, White & Blue sentiment from the Chit Chat Pieces.

SIMPLY SPRING WATERING CAN BOX CARD | with Kathy

Need a card to send to someone for a special occasion, or maybe just to brighten their day?  I created this watering can box card, and it would be perfect for a number of different occasions including Easter, Mother's Day, Birthdays, Spring or just because!  Take a peek...

This box card is based on the Watering Can from the Simply Spring Collection.  I used a combination of papers from the Love Notes, Petite Prints and Spring Things Collections to piece it together then added a sentiment to the tag using the new All Occasion Doodle Stamps.  These stamps are just awesome, there is a sentiment for almost any occasion!  I finished the card with some sprinkles for my flower centers!

I created an SVG file for this card so you can make and send your very own!  It is available exclusively in the Lori Whitlock SVG Shop here.  Following is a quick assembly tutorial ...

1) Start by cutting the pieces.  Add the decorative panels to the box card base and add the flower pieces to the insert.
2) Glue the two pieces of the handle together.  Do not add adhesive to the tabs on either end.  Repeat with the spout pieces.
3 & 4) Insert the handle into the two slots on the card base.  Turn over and fold "open" the tabs.  Glue the tabs to the inside of the box.  Repeat process with the Spout.

5)  Glue the box into shape, tab goes on the inside of the box.
6)  Add adhesive to the tabs of the insert.  Fold them back.
7)  Slide the Insert into the box, align the tabs with the back of the box and press the tabs to the sides to adhere.

All that is left is to pick your sentiment for the tag that is included with the card and tie it around the watering can!

I'm sure there are many folks who would just love to receive a card in these days of social distancing, and this would certainly bring a smile to the recipient's face!  That's it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek!

KITTEN IN A CUP BOX CARD | with Kathy

If you're a cat lover like me, you probably fell in love with the Kitten Smitten Collection from a few years ago.  I'm happy to "revisit" that collection often (in fact I may be hoarding some of it in my stash!)   The same goes for the Kitten Smitten Cut files.  I played with the cut files recently and designed this fun box card... a kitten in a teacup.. could it be any cuter?

The tea bag tag is blank in the card so I decided to use two stamps from the the new Love You Stamp set to add a sentiment.

If you haven't seen the new Occasions Stamp Sets, you're in for a treat!  There are SO many different sentiments in all sizes and fonts... you can mix and match with all of the Doodlebug Stamp sets to make a card for any occasion!

My card even folds flat to fit in a 5x7 envelope.

I created an SVG file for this card and it is available exclusively in the Lori Whitlock SVG Shop here.

Here is a quick assembly tutorial for the card...

1)  Start by cutting the pieces of the card.  Stamp a sentiment on the tag if desired.
2)  Glue the cat face onto the insert piece.  The black piece goes behind the face to show through the eyes and mouth.  Add the hearts and paws to the cup.  I used some foam tape behind the paws to give them some dimension.  Fold the "box" into shape and glue.
3)  Add the cup front and back to the box.  Fold the tabs on the kitty insert and add adhesive to the tabs.
4)  Slide the kitty insert into the box.  It should be flush with the bottom of the card.  Press the tabs to the sides of the box to adhere.

All that's left is to send the card off to your favorite crazy cat lady (or man....)!

That's it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek!
