HOMETOWN USA POP UP CARDS | with Kathy

I love making 3D Cards.  They are so fun, and look great on display!!  As soon as I saw the Hometown USA collection and coordinating Festive Floral Doodle Cuts, I knew what I would make!  Take a peek...

For my first card, I started with the new Festive Florals Doodle Cuts.  I created a clear jar shaker using the dies, heavyweight acetate and the new Land that I Love Shakers.  The jar pieces and flowers were cut from the coordinating Textured Cardstock pack. I also added some sprinkles and America the Beautiful shaped sprinkles to the centers.  I used the Plaid to be American paper for my base and finished it off using a Chit Chat sentiment, a heart from the Land that I Love Shaped Sprinkles and that sweet little birdie from the Bluebirds Doodle Pops!

I love the acetate fireworks in the Bits & Pieces pack and decided to use them as the focus for my next card.

I started with some clouds that I die cut from some Lily White Cardstock.  I added the acetate fireworks around them, as well as some acetate and shaped sprinkle stars which I attached to some acetate strips to make them look like they're floating.  The base of my card was created using the Summer Celebration paper.

I finished the card with some Star Spangled Shaped Sprinkles and a sentiment from the Chit Chat Pack.

HAPPY HEALING POP UP CARDS | with Kathy

It's no fun when you have a friend or family member who is under the weather.  I always try to do a little something to brighten their day.  The Happy Healing collection is perfect for this!  It's full of adorable icons and bright colors, certain to make anyone feel better!  I decided to create a couple of pop up cards to showcase the cute images.  Take a peek...

For both cards I started with a set of platform pop up dies and some of the 12 x 12 papers from my stash to create the bases.  My first card features the adorable Pill Better Doodle Cuts.  I created a the little pill bottle, using the open shaker piece and some heavyweight acetate for both sides so it looks like a clear bottle. I used some thin foam strips to create a shaker, and filled it with both the Pill Better Shakers and regular shakers.  around the bottle I added cute little tablets from the Puffy Icons and Odds & Ends.  I love how they look like they're floating on the acetate!

Here's a close up of the bottle shaker.  The sentiment was created using the speech bubble die from the Pill Better Doodle Cuts set and the sentiment stamp from the Pill Better Doodle Stamps.

My next card also has a "floating" effect using some more heavy weight acetate.  For this card I combined the Get Well Sentiment from the All Occasion Doodle Cuts with some die cut letters using the Alex Alphabet Doodle Cuts to spell out Get Well Soon.  I added lots of elements from the Odds & Ends to decorate around it.  I just love those cute little germs!

And a close up...

I'm all ready if someone becomes under the weather!  Make sure to stop by all this week for more Happy Healing inspiration!  That's it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek

PRETTY KITTY SHADOW BOX CARDS | with Kathy

Kitties, and Doodlebug... two of my most favorite things!  The Pretty Kitty Collection has just filled my head with so many ideas, it was hard to choose one, but I finally decided to make some fun Shadow Box Cards.  Take a peek...

For the base of my card, I modified a Shadow Box Card from Lori Whitlock.  I then resized the file to be more in line with the size of the kitties from the Odds & Ends pack.

For my first card, I created a little fish bowl.  I added a piece of acetate behind the bowl so I could put the little fish from the Purr-fect Pals Shaped Sprinkles inside the bowl.  I love the little orange kitty crouching down, and thought he would be cute, peeking at the fish!

I finished the card with the hello sticker from the This & That Sticker Sheet.

For my next card, I was inspired by the Kitty in the window from the Odds & Ends.  My kitties will sit in the window watching birds all day!

I made a little flower box in the window using the Backyard Bunch Shaped Sprinkles, and the sentiment is also from the This & That Sticker Sheet.  I can almost hear the kitty "chirping" at the bird!

I can't wait to send these cards off to my favorite crazy cat people!  Have you created any projects using the Pretty Kitty Collection?  Be sure to tag Doodlebug on Facebook & Instagram.  We love to see your creations!  That's it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek!

PRETTY KITTY COZY KITTIES BOX CARD TUTORIAL | with Kathy

I am so excited for the Pretty Kitty Collection!  I have always had kitties... and currently I'm cat mom to two fuzzbutts... Rosie & Jax.  I fell in love with the new Cozy Kitties Doodle Cuts and decided to make a 3D Box card using them well because kitties and I love making 3D cards!.  Take a peek...

How cute are those kitties!!!!  I used papers from the Pretty Kitty collection to make the chairs, along with some of the new Candy Stripe - Sprinkles Petite Prints for my kitties.  The sentiments were made with my Silhouette, I created a print and cut file for the word bubbles. I wanted customized sayings, but there are also lots of fun speech bubbles and sentiments in the Chit Chat pieces!  Here are some close ups....

Who can resist a punny sentiment... not me! The cute little mouse toy is from the Icon stickers sheet.  These cards also fold flat for mailing...

And for all those cat-moms out there... the purrfect Mother's Day Card!  These really were fun to make!  I've outlined the steps I used below....

I started by cutting three of the big chair pieces, eight of the chair leg pieces, the cushion piece, and the arms of the chair.  I also cut two strips... one measuring 7/8" x 7" and the second 7/8" x 3.25"

Next I created the chair legs.  For each let, I glued 2 of the legs together, right sides out.  I did this to give them a little more strength.

Glue two of the doubled chair legs to the wrong side of one of the chairs.  I aligned the top of the chair leg with the center of the chair bottom.  Then glue another of the chair pieces to this, right sides together.  This gives the card a stronger base and a more finished look.

Next, take the last chair piece and cut it as shown.  I measured approximately 1 1/4" from the bottom of the chair.  You can discard the topmost part of the chair.

Glue the remaining legs to the "wrong" side of the chair, aligning them as you did on the other side.  Let them dry.
Turn that piece over, and add the chair cushion, centered, and aligned with the top side.  I used pop dots for this to give it a bit more dimension.
Add the chair arms as shown.  Again, I used pop dots to add these.
Next, I worked on the "box" part of the card.  First, score the longer strip of paper at 2 1/4", 3 1/4", 5 1/2", and 6 1/2".  Fold along the score lines (all in the same direction and create a little box.  Glue in place using the tab.
Score the 3 1/4" piece at 1/2" and at 2 3/4"

Insert the smaller piece into the box you created, gluing the tabs of the insert to the inside walls of the box.
Glue the front of the chair you created to the longer side of the box, aligning the top of the box with the chair cushion.
Finally glue the back of the chair to the opposite side, making sure that everything is straight.

Now all that is left is to choose which kitties you want to piece together, and to glue them to the insert inside the box!

If you make any of these, please tag both Doodlebug Design and me (@kathy_skou) I would love to see your creations!!  That's it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek!

OVER THE RAINBOW POP UP CARDS | with Kathy

Spring is definitely here in New England!  The warmer weather has arrived and the flowers are starting to pop up!  It's the perfect time for some fun spring cards!  I put these fun pop up cards together using the Over the Rainbow Collection, take a peek...

I love all the different sized embellishments and stickers available in Doodlebug collections.  The Odds & Ends, Icon and mini Icon stickers give you a great variety of sizes and images to use to make fun scenes, and they all go together so quickly!

For my first card I used lots stickers from the mini icons to create a spring scene.  The size of these stickers were perfect for my pop up base!  I also added a piece of acetate so that the gnome in the balloon and butterfly look like they are floating!  To finish, I added some sprinkles to the flower centers for some dimension and sparkle! For my sentiment, I used the Hello Sign from the mini icons.

My second card includes the rainbow from the Odds & Ends, the adorable squirrel from the Icons Stickers and other stickers from the mini icons sheets.  Of course I had to add a mini heart sprinkle for some shine! My sentiment is stamped and came from the Gnome Sweet Gnome Doodle Stamps.

I just love that cute little squirrel and ladybug!  They make me smile!  Hopefully the recipients of these cards will feel the same way!

FARMERS MARKET BOX CARDS | with Kathy

I hope all of our followers had a wonderful Thanksgiving break!  Personally, I ate too much and spent too much on my holiday shopping, but it was wonderful to have family home!  I also got some time in the craft room to play some more with the Farmers Market Collection.  I was picking through the adorable Odds & Ends and found the cutest little paper bag full of veggies, and I thought it would make a cute 3D Box Card.  I came up with two different versions... take a peek...

For my first card, I used the floral pieces from the Bits & Pieces pack to fill my bag.  For the base of my card, I altered this file from Lori Whitlock.  I added handles and my own inserts, and lots and lots of flowers!  I layered many and added some foam dots for more dimension.

To finish it, I added a Chit Chat sentiment and some of the Honey Bees and Fall Flowers Shaped Sprinkles.

My next card was made to resemble the cute paper bag of veggies from the Odds & Ends pack.  I used the same base file for the bag, and then chose the cutest of the veggies to add to my card.

To complete, I added the Hello sign from the Chit Chat pieces.  How fun are those little smiles?

That's it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek!

MONSTER MADNESS SWING SHADOWBOX CARDS | with Kathy

I'm excited to be kicking off a month of Monster Madness inspiration.  This collection is just the cutest... the little monsters are adorable!  I created a couple of fun swing shadowbox cards.. take a peek...

The fun part of these cards is that one of the icons "swings" when the card is shaken.  I got the idea for these cards here, then made them my own versions using the cute little critters from the Monster Madness Odds & Ends.

My first card features a few of the cute little monsters in the Odds & Ends pack.  The blue ghost guy swings back and forth.  I love that these little monsters can be used for celebrations other than Halloween... they can be used for birthdays, or just because too!

To make the swing, I created and cut a shape like a bubble wand from some acetate using my Silhouette.  I punched some small circles and glued them together in a stack, then glued them to an insert in the top of my shadowbox card.   The ghost is attached to the wand "handle".  I put the circular part of the wand over the punched circle stack, then added a strip of paper to keep the swing in place.  I finished the card with a sentiment from the Chit Chat pieces, and added some shaped star sprinkles.

This video shows how the little monster swings back and forth.

I featured the little spiders from the collection in my next card.  I've always said... only Doodlebug can make a cute spider!  I cut some spider webs using the Booville Spider Circle SVG file.  I added spiders from the Odds & Ends and some eyes sprinkles from the Eye See You sprinkles on the background to make it a bit spooky.  The sentiment is from the Odds & Ends pack.

In this close up you can see how the spider hangs from the acetate wand.

This video shows the little spider in action.

Be sure to check back all this month for more Monster Madness Inspiration!  And be sure to tag Doodlebug Design on Facebook & Instagram if you create something using the collection.  We love to see your creations!  That's it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek!

SEASIDE SUMMER STAMPED BOX CARDS | with Kathy

Ok, I know I've said this before, but this time I really mean it.  The new Seaside Summer Collection is my all time favorite Doodlebug Collection!  The colors, the sea critters, the houses and light houses... everything is simply adorable!  I decided to play with the new Seaside Summer and Sea life Doodle Stamps and made a couple of fun box cards.  Take a peek...

My first card uses mostly the Seaside Summer Stamps.  We just purchased a new boat so these stamps were perfect!  The light house, the cute little beach house.. and of course a design team favorite Steven Seagull... all remind me of our marina!

My next card used the new Sea Life Stamps.  I love the sea critters!  And the coordinating Doodle Cuts also come with a bonus seaweed die which is great for scene-making.

That crab... I'm dying.  He's so stinking cute!  Have you made any cards or projects using the new Seaside summer collection?    Make sure to tag Doodlebug Design on Facebook & Instagram, we always love to see what you create.  That's it for me to today, thanks for stopping by to peek.
