BAR-B-CUTE PICNIC BASKET PARTY FAVORS + TUTORIAL | with Karen

Every year, we celebrate my oldest daughter's birthday with a picnic in the park. While picnics might look different this year, having a little thank-you for those who are attending is a part of tradition that I am just not willing to part with! And considering Doodlebug has the perfect new collection called Bar-B-Cute, I couldn't help but make some little party favours to share with our guests! These little picnic baskets are the perfect size for a few little treats... ...and the cutest set of mini cards that you can ever imagine. These little sentiment cards can be found in the 6x6 paper pad - simply cut them out, add them to a mini base and pop them inside the basket! It really doesn't get cuter than these! Here's how you can make them too:
Cut a sheet of Petite Prints paper at 5x5 (one per basket) and another strip of paper that measures 3/4" X 5".

Score your 5x5 sheet at 1.5" and 3.5".
Rotate the sheet of paper 90 degrees. Score at 5/8", 1 1/4", 1 7/8", 3 1/8", 3 3/4", 4 3/8".
Cut up and down along each of those score marks stopping al the middle section of the basket.
Focusing on the middle section (the largest one), trim off an angle about 1/8" in. Do this for each side of the paper (both sections)
Fold all of the score lines.
Starting on one side, fold in the smaller sections, overlapping each. It doesn't matter which order you do - just keep it consistent on each of the sides of your basket.
Once you are happy with how it is coming together on both sides, fold down the middle/largest section and add glue on the inside. Note: I actually used too much liquid glue here! A little goes a long way, and you don't want it squishing out the sides like mine did.
Once the ends are lined up the way you like them and straight across the top, use a paper clip or mini clothes peg to hold it in place while you work on the other side.
Once the glue has set, grab a mini doily and fold it over the side edge of your basket. Repeat on the other side.
Hole punch in the middle of both sides of the basket going through the doily as well.
Punch your long strips about 1/4" from both edges.
Use a chunky brad to adhere the handle on the inside of the basket.
And to make it look even more like a picnic basket, cut a stip of paper from the B-B-Cute collection at 2"X6". Trim off each end to make a triangular shape (I went in 1" on each end). Slip it into your basket and press down in the middle.
Fill with treats and get ready to enjoy or give away!

SCHOOL DAYS STAMPING | with Karen

I will not say that it is almost time for back to school. Nope. Not going there. Instead, I am simply going to celebrate the amazingly cute new collection from Doodlebug called "school days" and leave it at that! Because if I ignore it long enough, it will go away, right (not the collection - back to school...oh no, I just said it...<sigh>)? Can you tell I have been having a pretty amazing summer? Packed into it has been a whole lot of crafting, and these new collections that Doodlebug has released have made it even better! I mean, does it get any cuter than this paper (this math loving teacher is all over the formula paper)? And the stamps! Oh, the stamps! I did some masking to create this mini image with the little boy and school bus from the "school boy" stamp set. And while I didn't use the doodle cuts because of the masking, you could create the same effect by using the dies and simply layering the boy on top of the bus!

So while this little general purpose card (okay, okay, it would be great for back to school) was the first project I created with this collection, I can't wait to deck my whole classroom in gems from this collection! It brightens MY day...even if it is a day back at school!

HOPPY EASTER | Easter Treat Containers with Karen

I know it's hard to believe, but Easter is around the corner! In fact, it's just a HOP, skip and jump away! So it's time to break out the mini chocolate Easter eggs...ummmm...I mean...it's time to break out the treat containers to hold those mini chocolate Easter eggs! So it's a good thing that Doodlebug has an adorable new Eater collection called Hoppy Easter and some amazing coordinating stamps and dies! With those in hand, I was able to whip up some adorable "sour cream" treat containers cute enough to hold said eggs...if they last that long! These little containers are a breeze to whip up. You can find many tutorials online, but a simple paper roll is created and then pinched together and sealed with adhesive in two different directions. That's all there is to it! I topped mine off with some of the adorable stamps from the Hoppy Easter stamp set, and then used the handy, handy coordinating dies to cut them out.

And see that adorable tag that each stamp is on?! Well that little shape happens to come from another die set that Doodlebug has created - So Much Pun - Pill Better set. There are two different sizes for you to work with, and if you love making treat containers and cards as much as I do, this is a set you will use over and over again!
And one of the other great parts about working with the stamps are all the little accessory stamps you can use to make each image your own. For this little basket, I actually used two images - one for the basket and the other for the grass and egg on the ground. With a bit of masking and layering, I was able to customize a great little image for this tag. If you haven't noticed by all the projects I have done lately with the new stamps and dies from Doodlebug, I am in love! I mean really, how can you not love that face?! I hope this project inspired you to create a little something to make your Easter hunts even more special - or at least cute enough to hold your treats until you can get to them!

SIMPLY SPRING Treat Containers | with Karen

It's time. No really. It's time! It has been a long and coooooold winter up here in Canada (I know, I know, it should be a long and cold winter up here), so let's just say I am ready for spring!
So, when Doodlebug's Simply Spring collection arrived on my doorstep, this collection went straight onto the crafty table. It might still be white and bleak outside, but my crafty space is filled with the spring colours and cute spring icons that make me smile. Goodbye winter - hello spring!
I decided to whip up a few treat containers for some of my colleagues - a little surprise for the first day of spring! With the new doodle stamps and doodle cuts, these were a spring breeze!
Each treat container is constructed out of textured cardstock and topped with patterned paper from the 6X6 paper pad. Because these treat containers are quite small, the scaled down patterns in the 6X6 are a perfect fit!
I used the darling "oh boy" doodle stamps for the little characters on each container coloured up with my alcohol markers. Each is adhered with a foam square just to give the containers a bit of extra dimension.
And the great thing about working with the new stamps is you can even play around with layering! This little bird is a separate stamp from the turtle, but I felt they were just meant to be together!
Hopefully these little creations bring a little spring smile to your face and inspire you to get crafty with this new collection!

Lots O' Luck - Stamping Gift Boxes | with Karen

About 20 or so years ago, my parent came back from a holiday with a little gift for me. It was a little stamp and stamp pad from a vendor who was selling them at a craft fair. I had always been a crafty person, but this was the first time that I had used stamps. It didn't take long for the collection to begin. So you can imagine my excitement when Doodlebug announced the release of a whole line or adorable stamps to coordinate with their collections! I think I squealed. No, I know I squealed! Truth be told, I already had my marker collection organized by the ones that coordinated with Doodlebug colours and those that did not and I may have considered taking a day off of work so I could just spend it colouring! After playing with a few of the sets, these little pillow boxes became my first completed project with the new stamps.
Since I already wanted to feature the adorable Lots o' Luck collection, the new Doodlebug Design stamp set called "rainbows and unicorns" was the perfect fit!
I coloured them up to match the amazing rainbow striped paper in the collection and added them to some simple pillow boxes made out of citrus and grasshopper coloured textured cardstock.

I decided that these would be perfect as party favours for my daughter's upcoming birthday, so I used a sentiment from the "flower girl" stamp set for the "thanks", and added an adorable rainbow heart sprinkle to each to finish it off.
I really love these stamps and I know you will too! Here's to an ever growing stamp collection now populated with some of the cutest ones around!
