LAND THAT I LOVE TIC-TAC TAGS | with Melinda

Happy July 4!!!
Start your 4th July celebrations with these cute
Tic Tac Tags.

I found these adorable mini Tic Tac boxes and thought they'd make wonderful accessories to something... but wasn't quite sure what. So I had a little rummage in my craft supplies and was inspired by the new Stand Alone Large Die Cuts. Let the tag-a-thon begin.

To be honest they were very quick to put together as I cut the large tag die pieces for all the tags and layered the different patterned papers from the 6x6 Land That I Love Paper Pad to create the layers.

Each tag was decorated with a Doodle-Pop from the Land That I Love collection and additional pieces from the Odds & Ends pack. The Tic Tac packets were adhered with a foam pop dot so they were easy to remove.

Lastly I added Sprinkles from the Red, White and Blue Assortment to give each tag that last little touch. My youngest has already claimed tags as he wants to take them to school to share with his friends. Thank you for stopping by today and have a wonderful July 4 holiday.

FRENCH KISS - First Birthday Layout | with Melinda

Cut files are wonderful additions to any project and can be downsized or upsized to suit your needs. I was playing around with a design concept and couldn't work out how to incorporate the hot air balloon into my layout. After several sketches and a few missed shots into the waste paper basket I decided to enlarge the French Kiss - Hot Air Balloon cut file to fill the entire layout and use it as my backdrop to the photos.

I also used the French Kiss - Clouds Cut file but changed it to just the outline of the cloud shape to soften their overall look on the layout. They were just too heavy when left solid.

To give the layout a little lift I added Heart Throb Shaped sprinkles in the main colors on the layout with the addition of lime green to pick up the greens in the photos. It really made a difference just have that small touch of lime scattered around in the heart clusters.
I don't think there has been a This n That Sticker sheet that I haven't used atleast one of the three tabs on offer. They would have to be one of my favourite embellishments as I slip them behind the photos to give a focal point to draw the eye straight to each pic. And these new designs with the faux stitching are just the cutest.

FRENCH KISS - I Woof You Layout | with Melinda

Yes, the French Kiss collection is essentially themed towards Valentine's Day, however it is far from restricted to just February 14. With the addition of turquoise, navy and lime to the traditional red, white and pink the colors allow you to stretch beyond the theme of love. And more notably, icons perfect for French holidays, or holidays in general, engagements, birthdays and pets too! And seeing as we have a little Pug in our family I couldn't go past creating a page just for him.
I decided I wanted to create a circular centrepiece to my layout, however it looked a little bare around the outside so I added two different patterned papers to create a vertical border either side before adding in all the Odds & Ends pieces to create the little scene I was working towards.
The photo of our little Pug 'Dusty' was the first thing I placed into the circle and then built everything around it. I used foam pop dots to create dimension so pieces would overlap. I also hand punched white leaves to pop in between the colorful die-cuts just to soften the overall look.
Finally I hand stitched around the circle and added one of the sweet Odds & Ends die-cut bows to the bottom of the stitching.

Christmas Town - Santa Paws Layout | with Melinda

Do you scrap your furry friends and include them in your family albums? Pets can be such a huge part of our lives and isn't memory keeping about preserving all the memories no matter how big or small?

We were blessed to be given the chance to add this little pug-munchkin into our lives last year and he has filled a very important space in our hearts and home. So I decided he needed or perhaps 'I' needed to buy him his very own Santa Suit. He looked so adorable and the photo really was quite funny so I really wanted to give the whole layout a very whimsical look.
After drawing up a little sketch I worked on creating a background of hand punched snowflakes but I felt the traditional white snowflake wouldn't give the feeling of fun. Which is why I ended up with rows of coloured snowflakes to create an ombre affect down the page. I used the floral side of the brand new Petite Prints Floral/Grid which gave me the exact match of colours to those within the Christmas Town collection.

I mounted the photo on a couple of different pieces of Christmas Town patterned paper as it needed the extra color to make it really stand out. Then I created a little scene across the entire layout filled with the cute icon die-cuts from the Odds & Ends pack.
I also added in a couple of the Christmas Town Doodle-Pop stickers as they are perfect for the added dimension.

Pumpkin Party - Carving Pumpkins Layout | with Melinda

Photographs are the artwork that hang in our memory gallery, and without them we'd lose precious moments forever. But, that doesn't mean they have to be of a certain 'traditional' shape or size. Every now and again it's fun to let a photo take on the shape of the particular subject it's representing which is why I decided to cut this particular photo to mimic the pumpkin... except for the ears which were left as they were as you can't have a dog without ears!

For the layout background I decided to use the grid side of the new Floral/Grid Petite Prints as I wanted a fairly plain backdrop for the photograph and stitching.

To create the pumpkin I printed a pumpkin shape onto plain copy paper and positioned it onto my layout before pin pricking all the stitching holes. Using a multi-colored embroidery thread and literally stitched from one side to the other criss-crossing my way around the design. All the embellishment pieces were from the Pumpkin Party 'Chit Chat' Pack which has 117 fun words, phrases and sentiments that are perfect for enhancing your project.

The title piece 'Carving Pumpkins' was also from the Pumpkin Party Chit Chat Pack and my journaling was created using Doodlebug 'All Mixed Up' rub-on alphas. They really were the perfect look the theme of this layout. I added little stars and spiders to soften the overall look of the layout.
Finally I decided on adding a couple of border strips from the 'This n That' sticker sheet as I felt the layout needed something to really drag the eyes down the page.
So, for all of you taking Halloween photos tomorrow, don't forget they don't always have to be square, you can have any shape you want, even if the ears stick out.

Pumpkin Party - Mad Monday Layout | with Melinda

Living on a farm in Australia means there's absolutely no way I'm going to ever have photos of my children Trick-or-Treating! Dressing up yes, putting on weird make-up yes but nothing to do with door knocking and collecting sweets from neighbours. However, that does not mean I can't use a Halloween themed collection like 'Pumpkin Party' on a layout, especially if the colors are perfect.
My daughter recently finished her football year and it's tradition to celebrate 'Mad Monday' after the season finishes. So, this year her groups of friends wanted to dress as Minions, and my daughter took it one step further and dressed as the 'Purple Minion'. She looked so cute!

I recently purchased a pair of fringing scissors so worked on a layout style that would allow me to give them a go. The new Petite Prints worked perfectly as I was able to choose the same pattern but run with different colors down my heart shape to create the fringed backdrop for the photo.
I just adore this tiny floral on the Petite Prints and the flip side is just as cute with a gorgeous grid pattern. And yes, those two objects are buttons!!! I say a big 'yes' to bringing back the humble button on layouts and cards, which is why I was really excited to see the 'Spooky Town Boutique Button Assortment' as part of this Halloween collection.

I journaled around the heart using up my Doodlebug Candy Shoppe tiny rub-ons... I'm getting close to running out of this staple so will be sad when I have to go back to hand writing. I hope I've given you inspiration for putting together a fun non-Halloween layout using our Pumpkin Party collection and the new Petite Prints.

Sketch Inspiration for Layouts | with Melinda

What's your go-to inspiration source for layout design? Pinterest seems to be a popular destination however from personal experience I start looking with good intentions and then find that an hour or two has passed and I've pinned 300 landscaping designs and clean eating recipes. So, one of the best and quickest ways to get a design down on paper is the humble sketch. You are always assured of perfect balance, an aesthetically pleasing design and the right amount of journaling space for what you want to achieve because you get to select the sketch that best suits your needs.

Becky Fleck is one of the all time sketch-masters and has been designing layout ideas at PageMaps for as long as I've been scrapping. Today she has uploaded a brand new month of creations at PageMaps which are sure to give you the perfect inspiration for your next layout including the sketch I used for my layout.
As you can see, I didn't deviate from the original design of the sketch because as soon as I saw that stitched heart I knew I wanted to recreate it exactly as it was. And I've been dying to use this new variegated thread I bought because it was the perfect match for Doodlebug's Hello collection.

Class of 2018 Layout | with Melinda

Hello! Yes, that's me being friendly but also the name of the collection I've used for my layout. Hello is a beautiful mix of bright and vibrant pinks and yellows through to the deep rich tones of turquoise and navy with the most beautiful addition of gold foil highlights... which just happened to be the perfect combination of color for this gorgeous photo of Miss Abigail Sandoval who recently celebrated her graduation. Yes, the name sounds familiar as she is the daughter of Cynthea Sandoval, owner and extraordinaire of Doodlebug Design.
I was so thrilled to receive a graduation announcement via snail mail (all the way to Australia) complete with this beautiful photo and I really wanted to create a layout to send back.
The Hello 'Odds & Ends' Pack has the wonderful addition of clear acetate pieces to give that extra lift to your embellishment clusters without detracting too much from the layout.
To make the lace overlay I uploaded the 'Hello' cut file 'Bouquet' into Silhouette Design Studio and played around with the flowers to form a circle.
I added an outer ring to hold it all together although I left the flower centres as separate pieces.
I cut four copies and mounted them on top of each other for dimension and height. To glue each layer together I used my Tombow glue pen as it was the only thing fine enough to place glue on the flower outlines.
Next step was to cut 1" x 2" rectangles of various patterned papers from the Hello collection 6x6 paper pad that would match perfectly with the colors in the photo.
I proceeded to adhered them to the layout in a diagonal pattern to form the base for the lace overlay.
I attached the floral piece and the flower centres onto the patterned paper background and then added the outer ring cut from plain white cardstock to finish the design.
