July PageMaps Sketch with Kathy Skou

Hi Everyone!  It's Kathy today with my PageMaps Sketch Challenge Layout! The Doodlebug Design Team were all given great sketches to play with from the July PageMaps release.   I received this fabulous sketch from Becky Fleck...

I had a lot of fun with this sketch.  I found this picture of my daughter and friends in front of their freshman dorm, and couldn't resist using some At the Zoo papers and embellishments to scrap it!  Take a peek...

I just adore the little critters in this collection.  I used a whole bunch of them from the Icons Sticker Sheets and the word stickers from the This and That Sticker Sheet are always a favorite!

I finished it all off with a fun mixed alpha title using some Teensy Type Letters and the "wild" stickers from the At the Zoo Icons Stickers..  Be sure to take a peek at the other posts from the last couple of weeks for more Doodlebug Design/PageMaps Inspiration!  That's it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek!

July PageMaps Sketch with Courtney Lee

Hi everyone! If you have been following along you know we teamed up with the fabulous Becky Fleck from Page Maps and were provided with some awesome sketches for July! Here was mine. Courtney Lee from Court's Crafts here with a ... now don't keel over from shock ... a layout!
I stayed really true to the sketch and used it as my beginner's diving board and just launched myself into the deep end of scrapbooking!

We had this AMAZING time in Barcelona last year and I just had to capture the first moment that the girls put their feet in the Mediterranean Sea.

I wanted to keep the button elements from the sketch as I thought they were darling and the heart element on the photo mat.

This little heart was the cut out of the photo mat and the sun and clouds were from the odds and ends in the Spring Things collection.

Again, what I love is that doodlebug's colors are the same across collections. This made it super fun to pull out elements from all kinds of places. The cloud and background patterned papers are from the Dragon Tails collection! Aren't the pebbles darling? Also, see that ribbon loop? Don't forget about it. :)

I wanted to keep those two stitched lines in there as well. They were my very last addition to the layout but I think it pulled the title into the rest of the page.

I kept the top left button in place but I moved the other button bottom right. Like I said I really kept to the sketch. :) When they are good I realized through this process that it really makes scrapbooking "easy".

Did you remember that ribbon loop I was telling you about? Hidden journaling is "in" right now so I thought I would give it a try. The journaling notebook sheet is from the same odds and ends pack in the Spring Things collection

Is anyone else out there self conscious about their handwriting?! Knowing this was going onto the blog had me sweating in my boots! LOL.

I hope you enjoyed this layout and that you use some of these sketches to make awesome layouts of your own! We cannot wait to see them!

July PageMaps Sketch with Mendi Yoshikawa

Hello Doodlebugs!  It's Mendi here today sharing a closer look at a layout I created for Becky Fleck's July PageMaps sketch reveal using a mix of some of my favorite Doodlebug collections for summer.   For my page I really wanted to play off the colors and polka-dot pattern in my photos so I ended up pulling papers and embellishments from six different Doodlebug lines to create my layout today.

Here's a full look at the awesome double page sketch that inspired my layout.  It originally called for 2 vertical and 4 horizontal photos, but I only had five photos from this day so I switched one photo to an embellishment opportunity where my palm tree is.  ;)

The sketch calls for three clusters to form a visual triangle and move the viewers eye through the page, with the title and subtitle forming the third point in the triangle.  For my first point, I used a polaroid frame and embellishment from the Fun in The Sun Odds and Ends pack, topped with a mini jewel.

I chose to use the center strip which was originally intended for some longer journaling to hold my over-sized title using a mix of two different styles of alphabet stickers. To add a bit of interest, I mixed two different colors in the same skinny font and layered a sun below the word "sunning".

For my new "journaling" spot I added some simple details about the day along with a cute little scene using some waves paper which I fussy cut out and paired with a flamingo sticker from the new At The Zoo collection.

July PageMaps Sketch with Karen Hanson

Hi everyone! It's Karen, and today I am so excited to share with you a layout inspired by one of the amazing Page Maps from Becky Fleck! When Lori mentioned that the DT was teaming up with Becky, I was over the moon. There have been many, many, many times during the years that I have been scrapping that a layout or page just doesn't seem to come together. Having a sketch has saved me from frustration many times.

And let's face it, anything that keeps crafting a fun adventure for me is a tool that I plan to keep in my pocket!

I loved the simplicity of this sketch and kept it pretty much as it was, using my favourite Cream & Sugar collection for the papers and embellishments and the Grasshopper Dot-Grid Petite Prints as my base. I am quickly running out of this collection and it is definitely time to replenish...I just LOOOVE it!
The super cute character hearts from the Odds and Ends pack were a perfect replacement for the cute animal characters in the sketch...
...and I used some Sprinkles in a row to essentially where Becky had some stitching in the original sketch (I am a firm believer that every one of my Doodlebug projects need Sprinkles! ;)). In the end, it's a bright cheerful layout that was so easy to pull together with Becky's creative helps and some cute Doodlebug product. From beginning to end - it was about 15 minutes in the making! Now I am all for time and detail in layouts, but it sure feels great to pound a few out every now and again (especially given my current back load of photos, if you know what I mean). Anyway, I hope this challenge's partnership with Becky will help get you creating too!
Thanks for stopping by! Hugs, Karen

July PageMaps Sketch with Caroli Schulz

Hello Doodlebug peeps! How are you? Caroli here to share my take of the fabulous sketch provided by Becky from Page Maps.

I love sketches and Page Maps ones are one of my favorite, so it's was a pleasure to collaborate with them this month. Here is the sketch I received:

Super cute, don't you think? I love all the layers and little details of this sketch, here is my take:

I used pics from a day I spent at Animal Kingdom with my little daughter and good friends.  We had such a blast, it was mandatory to document this day in my scrapbooks.  The collection At the Zoo is perfect for documenting these happy zoo moemories, don't you think?

I love the shape sprinkles of this collection, this little glossy leaves are so cute, a perfect detail in my layouts.

I love all the funny patterns in this collection and couldn't decide which one to use, so I created a block with a circles grid, the perfect way to include lots of patterns in a small space. I also used some of the animals diecuts included  on the Odds&Ends package, monkey and lyon are my fave ones!

I created my title using Skinny Cardstock Alpha Stickers in black color and a word I cut with my Silhouette Cameo machine. I love combining block letters and handwritten words, it looks pretty and interesting. In this title I used "Learning Curve" free font.

I hope you like this layout, I really enjoyed working with this sketch and of course with this cute and happy collection by Doodlebug Design. Big hug!

July PageMaps Sketch with Jomelle Gomez

Good Morning Doodlebug Fans. Jomelle here today sharing Becky Fleck from Page Maps sketch challenge. As you may already know, I'm the "Planner Girl" DT so I wanted to use this sketch in my Traveler's Notebook.

This was a little challenging for me because I needed to make the 12x12 sketch to work and to fit in my Standard Size Traveler's Notebook. It just so happens that when I printed my sketch, the way it printed it fitted perfectly in my TN.

Creating my layout, I ran into another challenge because of how the layout fit in my TN. One pictures fall right into the middle of my TN so when I close it, the picture will be folded. I had to move the sketch a little so that the pictures will fall on the left and right side of the notebook. I'm glad how it turned out and I was able to make it work.

Thank you for stopping by. Maybe you can try to use the sketch to create your layout.

July PageMaps Sketch with Virginia Nebel

I love using PageMaps sketches as an inspirational starting point for my layouts.  I love the flexibility to either follow a sketch closely or key off an element in the sketch that I'm drawn to.   The sketch shows a vertical block and journal card that became the starting point of my design plan.  I wanted to keep to a red and white theme so instead of mixing pattern papers as per the sketch I opted to use white doilies on the white page base just to add a hint of texture.  This page came together by combining two fun collections, Cream & Sugar and Yankee Doodle!

July PageMaps Sketch with Tya

Hi Everyone!  It's Tya and I am up on the blog today with my PageMaps Sketch Challenge Layout! The Doodlebug Design Team were all given great sketches to play with from the July PageMaps release.   I received this fabulous sketch from Becky Fleck...

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2c4I3EJXK9_DkiP0UhqyS48I1UoP9ZHiTYb94aWY9fPiXmZqytxllMmbmiUMfVIr7jr2o2_SnfoUTFY3ZaXJGosuojGlDA-yYhLS-qUIFzCjZZpyedTTsrrL_SQtMGYXbJ6cHerYcpN0/s1600/pagemap650.jpg

Here is my take on the sketch:
I am the biggest fan of Becky's sketches - in fact - I rarely start out creating a layout without a sketch in mind. This was a really fun sketch to work with!
I admit it - I am a cat lady - I only have one kitty named Hobbes so I can't be considered crazy yet right? :) He has been in our family for 17 years now and I just adore him to pieces. He is a snugly guy and I recently captured these photos of him and I mid-cuddle. We had just gotten home from being on vacation for a week and he just hopped up on the bed and gave me the sweetest loves. I am glad I caught this memory. Here are some close ups of the page:

To make my layout I started with some pattern papers from the Kitten Smitten collection. How cute are the kitty heads all over that paper right? My title is made from one of the Odds and Ends pieces. The black paw print is from the Odds and Ends as well. I added a scallop stripe pattern paper strip and a polka dot paper strip and layered them right under my photos. I added a ric rac black sticker from the This and That sticker sheet to the top of the paper strips.

Next I used some more ephemera pieces from the Odds and Ends to make a little cluster of embellishments. The kitty, pillow and hearts are all from that pack. The pink yarn ball is a sticker from the icon sticker sheet. I added a black matte sprinkle on to one of the hearts as well. My journaling was hand written on the notebook paper Odds and Ends ephemera and the So Happy Together banner is a sticker from the This and That sticker sheet. I tied some black and white bakers twine to the top of the journal spot.

The banner up on the left top corner was made using some banner pieces from the Odds and Ends. I strung them on some black and white bakers twine. I added 2 star stickers from the This and That sticker sheet to the ends.
Finally in the upper right corner, I added another little cluster of embellishments featuring a cute pink kitty in a box, and a aqua heart die cut. Then I added the cute Kitty tab sticker. I finished embellishing the heart with a yellow matte sprinkle.

That's all there is to it! Thank you Becky for providing the adorable sketch! It is one that I will for sure be revisiting very soon! Hopefully I have inspired you all to try it as well! Have a great weekend!
