Happy Fourth of July and a Wagon Full of Flowers | with Kathy

Happy Fourth of July everyone!  To celebrate I decided to create a fun table centerpiece using the Yankee Doodle Wagon and Flower Cut files!  These files can be found in the Lori Whitlock SVG Shop (Wagon, Flower Cluster) as well as the Silhouette Store ( Wagon, Flower Cluster).  Take a peek...

I will admit, converting a 2D file to be a 3D project was a challenge, but it certainly was fun!  I was just so happy that it turned out like I had envisioned in my head!  For papers, I used some Gingham Linen Petite Prints in Ladybug, Bubble Blue, Blue Jean, Limeade and Beetle..  I also used Starry Stripes and Declaration Dots from Patriotic Parade;  Colors of Courage and Land that I Love from Patriotic Picnic; and Horsin' Around from Down on the Farm.  I embellished the wagon with some Red, White & Blue Star Sprinkles (side of wagon); Red, White & Blue Matte Sprinkles (wheels) and Silver Glitter Sprinkles (for the rivets) Here are some more close-ups:

I've put together some instructions on how I converted the Wagon and Flower Cut files to go from 2D to 3D in Silhouette.  I will say this is not a beginner project!  You do need to be comfortable with your Silhouette and it's design functions.

I've included wagon assembly instructions on the image.

Below is how I assembled the flowers...

I started by curling the petals with the handle of a paint brush.  I then added glue to one of the petals next to the cut line, and overlapped the petals so that the flower formed a "bowl".  I did this for all three layers of the flower then stacked them, with some foam tape between the layers for more dimension.

For the stem, I took a piece of flower wire, bent it so there was a small circle at the top and inserted it through the hole in the center of the stacked flowers.  I wrapped floral tape under the flower to hold the wire in place.  I then added some of the greenery to the wire using floral tape.

I finished the flower off with a center that I borrowed from this flower in the Lori Whitlock SVG shop.

If you decide to take the challenge to make this, we would love to see your projects!  That's it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek!

Patriotic Sequin Decor

Hello Doodlebug friends! It's Wendy Sue and I am so excited to be joining you today - I have a fun project featuring Doodlebug Sequins  that I've been super anxious to share with you.

Whenever I think about the 4th of July, I automatically think of two things red, white, & blue (that's one thing!) AND fireworks!  I can't very easily mix fireworks with my paper products to make a fun decor project...so I'm using the next best thing - sparkly sequins!
I simply cut out the letters "U" "S" and "A" from white cardstock with my digital die-cut machine.  I painted a layer of liquid glue across the top of each letter and then I simply started lining up sequins on top of the glue:

Ladybug Sequins for the "U":

Lily White Sequins for the "S":

and Blue Jean Sequins for the "A":

Next, I covered some paper mache blocks with various patterned papers from the "Patriotic Parade" collection.  I attached the letters to the blocks with foam dots, for just a bit of dimension.

Now I just have to decide how to stack these babies up so I can display them in our home for the next few weeks!

No matter how you stack them, Doodlebug Sequins make a great addition to your patriotic decorations!

Patriotic Parade: Festive Table Display

I decorate all Summer long with patriotic colors, so this little display
will get a lot of use in the upcoming months :)

I started with my personal cutting machine (you can use a Cricut or download your
own star image for tracing if needed) and a general 'star' shape that comes in the basic
shapes preset to my machine.  I set the size to 5.75" and began cutting from various
patterns of paper from the Patriotic Parade Collection.

For each star you will need at least FOUR cut-out stars in four different patterns.
I have a total of FIVE stars, so I cut a grand total of 20 stars.
Place each star on a score board and score down the center as you can see above.
Using a liquid glue (because you will make adjustments when lining up the stars) begin
adhering one side of a fold to another star until you have four different stars assembled together.

Now that my stars are assembled, I moved onto die-cutting three
hearts so that I could display the letters USA between the stars.  I added a paper straw
to each heart and attached a pinwheel to the top of each!  Decorate with
sequins, Doodle Pops, Sprinkles, etc.

Attach the sections together by using the small end of a hole punch to create
holes at the ends of the stars and hearts; insert a medium sized brad through the holes.

Stands easily to act as a display for your Memorial Day buffet table or punch holes in the
two stars on the end and hang as a banner!

Again, you can stack as many of the star shapes together to create ornaments,
individual place seating markers or favors!  Try smaller or larger sizes too...have fun with it!

Patriotic Parade: DIY Kaleidoscope by Sharm

Hello there!! Can you believe we're already creating projects for the 4th of July collection?!  The year flying by so very fast!! Well, when I think 4th of July, I think of parties, parades...basically a lot of fun and sunshine filled days. With this in mind, I created a Kaleidoscope!

It's very simple to make. All you need are:
1) Cylinder shaped bottle. (I've used an old Pringles Potato Chips bottle)
2) 3 2x6 sized mirror strips and 1pc of 1.5x1.5x1.5 triangular shaped mirror

Now:
1) Tape the 3 strips to form a triangle.
2) At one end, using tape, adhere the triangle shaped mirror. This is so that you get reflections which is what the Kaleidoscope is famous for
3) Drop (gently) the constructed triangular piece into the box
4) Fill up the box with brads and sequins and what-nots.
5) seal the bottle with a transparent lid so you can see through! :)

Some close-ups, I put tonnes of layering made up of stickers, pinwheels and doodle-pops

What it looks like inside once I've put in little brads and sequins

Patriotic Parade: Layouts that Explode with Inspiration

Stadium of Fire
by Wendy Sue Anderson

Hi Doodlebug friends! It's Wendy Sue here today, sharing a layout I created using the new "Patriotic Parade" collection.
I was so excited to use that cute little airplane doodle-pop - and the mini star garland was just screaming to be added as a trail behind the plane!

The stickers in this collection are just phenomenal - so perfect for any type of patriotic project.
I love the dimensional doodle-pops...I think I used almost every single one on this layout.  Of course you don't have to go crazy like I did - but it sure makes for a fun, dimensional page!

Oh, and don't forget the extra little embellishments - the mini pearls that I added to the polka-dot paper, the star jewels that I scattered throughout the page, and the awesome new star sprinkles...just the perfect size to add to the stickers and other elements.
And no Doodlebug project is complete without a bit of doodle tape - I am loving the star spangled tape for this collection!
Thanks so much for stopping by today - I hope you have a "star spangled" day! :)

4th of July at the Lake Layout
by Aimee Kid

Hello Doodlebug friends! Aimee here with you today to share a layout documenting a fun 4th of July day out on the lake with the awesome new Patriotic Parade collection. There are so many fun patterns and embellishments to this collection! And they all blend so beautifully!

There are so many great elements to this collection for all those July 4th daytime activites. One of those great elements is a pattern paper of clouds. So I  fussy cut some of the clouds to set the mood of my layout. Some are adhered straight to the layout and some I used pop dots for dimension.

Doodlebug has the best alphas for creating unique titles!

And how fun are these little treat bags? They are perfect for anything your heart desires. I decorated the front with layers of cardstock stickers and star sprinkles & jewels then stuck in three of the pixies.

I love the smaller prints you get with the 6x6 paper pads! I chose 3 of the prints and ran it through my Silhouette to get these sweet little polaroid cuts to frame my pictures.

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope that I've given you some ideas on how to get all those yummy little Doodlebug embellishments on your next layout!
