RED, WHITE & BLUE SUMMER LAYOUT | with Virginia

July greetings, our family kicks off the Summer with celebrating the Canada Day holiday at our cottage, it's the perfect time to enjoy water activities and campfire s'mores! I chose as many red/white elements from the Yankee Doodle line to create my page.

As a clean and simple scrapbooker, I love anything linear or grid pattern so I used a calendar daily doodle (cut to 8.5x11) as my page base. I filled in all the little grid squares with the red/white gingham and red paisley patterned papers from the 6x6 paper pad. I achieved a paper quilt look by machine stitching little floral triangles onto the little square patterns.

Have you tried 8.5x11 scrapbooking? I like to have a mix of formats in my albums and as you can see you can still fit many photos to tell your story on an 8.5x11 page.

Thanks for dropping by the blog today, hope you have a wonderful day!

COMBINING COLLECTIONS FOR ONE BEAUTIFUL LAYOUT | with Virginia

Lots of graduations going on this time of year and the Hats Off collection is perfect to record these moments.  Not just limited to the graduations, the inspirational quotes and neutral colours in Hats Off are fabulous to scrapbook end-of-year sports activities. Adding elements from another DB collection works great (I added bits from the  Hello line) because the colours just pop off the page!

Make an embellishment to suit your layout theme. The banner sentiment originally read 'congrats grad' and I just covered up the word 'grad' with another banner sentiment. I love the confetti paper as the background and added sequins for extra sparkle!

Hope this inspires you to think of fun ways to use your scrapbooking stash!

SUMMER ACCORDION MINI ALBUM | with Virginia

Sunny Summer days are almost here, yay! Here's a quick little accordion mini-album that I put together using the Sweet Summer collection.

I made the base of the mini-album using the traditional tri-fold accordion template and added a little twist by creating a few flip pages.  Here are the steps to create the base of this one-sheet mini-album.

1. Start with a 12x12 sheet of paper. Score vertically in half at the 6" mark. Rotate 90 degrees and score at the 4" and 8" marks.  Fold the bottom half up, valley fold and then mountain fold the panels. Open the sheet back up again.

2. Refer to the photo below, using scissors cut along the horizontal scored lines as shown. Use a circle punch to cut a half circle on the lower middle panel. Fold up the album again, notice how cutting the first and third panels you have created instant pages!

In my project, I cut the pages smaller in to create a layered effect.

The middle panel is a pocket, a perfect spot to tuck in a tag to document extra photos or journaling.

Hope this inspires you to do a little mini-album crafting!

FRENCH KISS 8.5" x 11" LAYOUT | with Virginia

Inspired by a tray of beautiful and delicious eclairs I created a page using the beautiful French Kiss collection to take me away to Paris! The 'b' side of the 12x12 French Kiss paper featuring the iconic Eiffel tower was a perfect backdrop!

I used the Mini Love letters as fun accents to surround my photo. The white clouds were dry embossed with dots for some extra texture. Hope you are inspired to scrapbook a memory that transports you to a beautiful place!

LETTING THE PHOTO BE YOUR INSPIRATION | Layout with Virginia

When you have the opportunity to be a 'cool' scrapbooker you take it when you can right? LOL! The goats in the photo along with this Irish cutie was dual inspiration for me to use the fabulous Lots O' Luck collection and the trendy acronym GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) for my page title.

I used the beautiful smaller scaled pattern papers in the 6x6 paper pad to create a mosaic tiled backdrop using 3/4" vertical strips.  This is a great way to add a fun graphic texture to the page.

Thanks for dropping by the blog today, hope you have a wonderful and crafty day!

Doodlebug Supplies Used:
12x12 Petite Prints- yellow, white
Lots O' Luck 6x6 papers
Lots O' Luck Odds & Ends
Doodle-pop - rainbow

SIMPLY SPRING | Mini Album with Virginia

I love making mini-albums with little inter-active elements like pockets and flip outs. I've used the beautiful patterned papers and embellishments from the Simply Spring collection for my project. The mini-album I'm sharing today repurposes the regular file folder! A file folder is strong and sturdy, it can hold up really well to being the base for a mini-album.

I've included a simple tutorial template to show how the file folder is scored and cut to create the album base. There is an additional Step 7 to create the album cover.  A separate piece measuring 8x5 is attached to the little flap (Step 6) to create your album cover.  If you have lots of dimension in your album you may need to make a few vertical score lines to create a spine so that the album cover can close flat.

Hope this inspires you to search out some file folders and craft your own mini album joy!

LOTS O' LUCK - Layout | with Virginia

Top o' the morning everyone! Hope you are having a great day and if you are celebrating St. Patrick's day, may there be lots of green cheer in your future!

For today's page I travelled back in time to the film strip era! Remember when we held them up to a light or window squinting to see the photos, fun times! Incorporating the film strip is a great way to showcase many photos. On my page I made the main photo larger and the supporting photos the same size fitting them side-by-side onto the filmstrip.

I used a film strip die cut, I cut it in half (horizontal) to fit the height of the photos and revealed just enough of the filmstrip's top and bottom edges to mimic a filmstrip roll across my page.

Have you seen the sweet mini icon sticker rolls? These are so awesome, if you look closely at the photo you can see how cleanly the sticker peels away from the negative backing!  I applied the leprechauns, clover and shamrock stickers to white card stock circles and used it as a repetitive element to enhance the theme of my page.

The Odds & Ends are just packed to the brim with cute ephemera and I can swoon all day over the gold foiled element. Thanks for dropping by the blog today, cheers!
