CUPCAKE MINI FLIP ALBUM | with Shellye

Hip Hip Hooray for birthdays!  Shellye here today with my first ever flip-style mini album. It's so easy to put together and makes an adorable addition to a table display.  Aside from adding small photos to it, guests can also write little notes inside the pages:

To get started I created the triangular base from a 5"X9" sheet of patterned paper and three pieces of chipboard that measured 3.5"X5" (two pieces) and 2"X5".  I placed the chipboard onto the paper as below:

After attaching the chipboard to the paper, I made creases in between the chipboard pieces and folded.  Next, I used a hole punch to make two sets of holes on both pieces of the 3.5" pages:
As you can see above, I also made a small paper topper to hold the base together at the top.
I wanted to make a cleaner transition between the topper and below, so I used the scallop border from the new Doodle Cuts "Borders& Edges" to cut a blue border from cardstock.
For the cover I made a mat with the "Large Tags" Doodle Cuts and then layered with a Doodle Pop, buttons and Chit Chat Die Cut!
I simply crafted the inner pages (as well as the cover above)  from a 4.25"X 6.5" paper that was folded in half.  I corner rounded the bottom edges after folding and hole punched the top.
All sorts of Doodle Cuts were used to make tags and mats for the following pages:
After decorating all of the pages, I used two 1" rings to clip them to the base.  Bows of ribbons were tied on and it's done!

CUPCAKE MINI ALBUM | with Tegan

I couldn't wait to document my niece's last birthday using the brand new Hey Cupcake collection. The darling color combo just screams birthday fun! The collection also includes super fun graphics like lollipops, candy pieces, pinatas, and more!

I used the Doodlebug So Much Pun - Cupcake and Candles Cut File to create the mini album base. I resized the cupcake to 6 1/2 inches tall and cut out 15 cupcake bases out of white cardstock. I adhered these together in groups of 3 to end up with 5 thicker cardstock pages.
Using one of the page bases as a guide, I hand drew a little bit smaller cupcake image. I hand cut this out and used it as a template to make the patterned paper page backgrounds. (If you don't want a white cardstock border on your pages you can omit this step.) I then used the amazing brand new Doodlebug Nesting Scallops Doodle Die to cut out about 12 scalloped circles to mix and match.
I used the journaling card from the back side of the Sundae Stripe Patterned Paper to tell my story. We had celebrated my niece's 6th birthday at Disney World. A stop at The Crystal Palace was just one of the little celebrations we had. I embellished this page with Icons Stickers and a banner piece from the Odds & Ends pack.

I made all of my photos 2" x 3" and with a small white border they fit perfectly in the journaling card from the Sundae Stripe Patterned Paper. I also had cut apart the Nesting Scallops cut outs in to little sections. Did you notice I tucked a little piece of it underneath the hearts? I love how it adds just a little aqua accent to the page!
I think the Nesting Scallop cut outs make perfect anchoring pieces for my photos. I love the mix of circular elements with the rectangular photos.
Hey Cupcake has so many adorable graphics, I had to include a couple pages without photos. I mean isn't that little piñata Icons Sticker perched above the Happy Birthday die cut piece just the cutest?!
I embellished this page with two scalloped circles from the Nesting Scallops Doodle Die Set. I used some Bright Assortment Matte Sprinkles to embellish the Happy Birthday emblem. I just love this plaid patterned paper, don't you?
I also love all of the tiny stickers on the Icons Stickers sheet! They helped me to add lots of little details to my page here.
On the last page, I used one of the Scalloped Circle cut outs underneath the Happy Birthday sticker. And that adorable llama patterned paper might be one of my favorites from this collection!
Thank you for joining me today! I had a blast using the brand new Hey Cupcake collection and Nesting Scallops Die Set! hope I have inspired you to grab some of these for your next mini labum or project!

Smash Up Challenge: Cupcake Layout by Melinda

PINK MAKES THE BOYS WINK!
A little saying my dear Mum used to say whenever I didn't want to wear pink! And surprisingly it's now my favourite color, so I was excited to have 'cupcake' as my challenge color from the Doodlebug palette.

The second part of our challenge was to use a previously designed piece as inspiration. I chose this sweet layout from the incredibly talented Tonya Prawitt whose work you will continually see in the Doodlebug product catalogue... yep, she's amazing!

'You are my Sunshing' layout by designer Tonya Prawitt
I loved the way she incorporated a twine rainbow into the background of her layout and seeing as I've been on a bit of a 'stitch-fest' lately I thought it was a great place to start.

I'm really enjoying the crazy style of stitching because it doesn't matter if I'm neat or not as it's great for hiding little imperfections. I know my color for this challenge was pink but you can't have an all pink rainbow. However, I did keep the colors soft as I really wanted the rainbow to remain as a background feature.

I continued with inspiration from Tonya's layout using the cloud design as a frame for my second photograph and I also added an italic heading.

I even managed to sneak a few flowers into the layout to really use the most of Tonya's original design. The pink papers and embellishments are from the two gorgeous new collections 'Kitten Smitten' and 'Fun In The Sun'.

Thanks for stopping by today and don't forget to pop by each day this week for more 'Smash Up Challenge' ideas. - Melinda

Sweet Enough to Eat! Mendi's Color Challenge Layout

Hello Doodlebugs!  It's Mendi here today with a layout focusing around Doodlebug's Cupcake color!  The soft pinks found in the cupcake color group are so pretty and were the perfect compliment for my cherry blossom photos.
To create my layout I used a fun sketch by Allison Davis at Scrapbook Generation and pulled out as many things I could think of in the cupcake color.  As I was creating I kept thinking of more items I missed (like washi tape, buttons, brads, clothespins, paper clips, pearls & paper frills to name a few).
For my tree branch and flowers I used Doodlebug's new Sizzix Tree with Flowers, Heart & Leaves die.  I simply cut the branches apart and pieced it together to lengthen it.  For the flower centers I alternated jewels, glitter sprinkles and sequins topped with mini pearls.  I love the sparkle it gives my page!  A little birdie sticker from the Sugar & Spice icon sticker sheet was the perfect finishing touch.
For my title I paired the "beautiful" sticker from the Kraft In Color Sticker sheet with the new Cupcake Skinny Alphas.  For my twine bow I was liking how the tails were naturally falling and I wanted it to stay like that so I used a glue pen to adhere it to my paper. I cut my little birdhouse out on my Silhouette using THIS cutting file and was able to hide the knot for my baker's twine by sandwiching it between pieces foam tape under my roof.  For my heart, I used a die-cut from that same Sizzix die.
I hope I've inspired you to take a closer look at the Cupcake color and to try a monochromatic project of your own.  I was pleasantly surprised by what a fun challenge it was!  :)
