Pinterest Inspired Challenge: Floral Teacup Arrangement with Kathy

Hi Everyone!  It's Kathy today with my Inspired by Pinterest project.  The Doodlebug Design Team was challenged to find a non-paper related pin on Pinterest that inspired us to create something from our Doodlebug products.  I took a look through my Pinterest Boards and found this pin showcasing some Mother's Day floral arrangements.   I just loved the beautiful flowers and decided to recreate this using some Gingham Linen Petite Prints.

My friend called this an "ambitious" project, she was so right!  However, I'm thrilled with the results, it was worth the effort.

I started with the tea cup cut file here.  I pieced it together using some Lily White and Stone Gray Petite Prints.  I then set to making a number of 3D Paper Flowers using various cut files from the Silhouette Store, and more Petite Prints.  I glued wire to the bases of the flowers and arranged them in the cup using some floral foam.  Here are some other views of the flowers in the cup...

And here are some close-ups of the flowers...

The best part?  I have a pretty floral arrangement that will never wilt!  That's it for me today.  Be sure to stop by over the next couple of weeks for more Pin-spired projects!  Thanks for stopping by to peek!

Sugar Coated Bunny Canvas Video Tutorial

Easter time means "Easter Candy" and we are huge fans of those yummy sugar coated PEEPS! And even better this year they've released new "flavored" peeps...YES! Lemonade, Blueberry, Party Cake and Bumble gum. The popular flavor around the Doodlebug offices is definitely Party Cake. But we also love how Peeps remind us of our yummy Sugar Coating glitter in all the Doodlebug colors.

So we have a treat today, we're featuring the Doodlebug Sugar Coating Glitter and My Craft Channel's Inspired by Pinterest. Today you can choose to read OR WATCH a video on how to create a darling Glitter Bunny Canvas from Lori Allred.

Here's a some the step-by-step images if you'd like to pin them or like the extra visual.

Create silhouette with vinyl or paper.
Coat with acrylic paint.
Add glitter while paint is still wet.
Coat completely with glitter and pour off excess glitter.
Remove your stencil to reveal glitter bunny. Coat with clear
acrylic spray or hair spray to keep glitter from flaking off.

Our bonus project was one Lori created with Doodlebug Sugar Coated glitter and Doodlebug's new Springtime Collection.

Inspired by Pinterest: Happy Together Layout by Stephanie

Hey! It's Stephanie here with my Inspired By Pinterest layout. For this assignment we were asked to design a project inspired by a pin on one of the Doodlebug boards. I chose to do Wendy Sue's Lovebirds grid layout.
Here is the link to her project:

I was inspired by the squares in her layout and how each of them held little scenes of cuteness. It was fun getting to use many of the different patterns found in the Day to Day Collection.

In her layout I liked how even though there was lots going on with papers and different embellishments the pictures still stood out. I tried to do this by using pictures with predominantly a bold red, I found it helped draw your eyes to the pictures first and then the fun bits and pieces here and there.

Here is one more close up so you can see the details of my layout better:

This was my second time getting to use a picture for layout inspiration and it was so much fun. Like a sketch it takes so much of the guess work out and made the process so much enjoyable instead of stressing to make your own unique design. If you haven't used a picture as inspiration for a layout or card, you should totally give it a try.

If you aren't already, you should be

Inspired by Pinterest: Baked Bread Gift Set by Kathy

Hi Doodlebugs! Kathy Martin here today to share a project I made inspired by this yummy pin found on one of Doodlebug's Pinterest boards.

As soon as I saw this pin it reminded me of one of my favorite fall activities...baking!

There's nothing like warming the house on a chilly autumn day and filling it with an irresistibly sweet aroma from the kitchen! I have a recipe for banana bread that I've been baking for nearly 30 years! Yes, I'm that old! Anyway, this recipe is simple, it's delicious, it's moist and it's out of this world! And it really should be called cake!

I bake at least four mini loaves at a time because it's that good and and if by some small miracle you don't eat it all within a couple days, it can wrapped in foil and popped in the freezer to be enjoyed at a later date! It keeps for months and tastes fresh baked when microwaving it for a few seconds before serving.

I also use this cake, I mean banana bread, for quick and easy gift giving. It's a perfectly yummy way to express gratitude. :)

Enough said, here's the recipe...

Banana Bread
1 cup Butter
2 cups Granulated Sugar
4 Eggs
1 1/2 cups Mashed Ripe Bananas
2 1/2 cups Sifted Flour
1 1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
1 tsp. Salt
Cinnamon and Sugar for Sprinkling

Cream butter and sugar until light. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Stir in banana. Sift together dry ingredients and add to banana mixture. Mix until well blended. Pour into greased mini loaf pans. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.

Enjoy!
By the way...in all my excitement to share this recipe with you, I forgot to mention that that my card and packaging with Doodlebug's Happy Harvest Collection! Isn't it adorable? It compliments this bread deliciously, don't you think? ;)

Inspired by Pinterest: Holiday Mailbox by Shellye

This week we challenged our Design Team to check the Doodlebug Pinterest Boards and find a project that inspires them to create their version. Today Shellye selected a project you may remember from earlier in the year that Amanda created...we love that she made a holiday version!!

Like a lot of you, I love perusing Pinterest boards for fun, inspirational ideas.  I always try to take an idea that I see and put my own special spin on things :)  For today's "Pinterest-Inspired Project" I have chosen a mailbox created by Amanda Coleman using Doodlebug's "Lovebirds Collection"

(Photo: Amanda Coleman)

I purchased this paper mache mailbox at Hobby Lobby; they come in a variety of sizes and mine measures approximately 9.25"L X 5.5"H X 4.75"W.  I love that it's roomy enough to store all of my Christmas cards/gift tags in or I could pack it with colorful cookies and give to a co-worker!

To begin, I covered the side of the mailbox with patterned paper.  The paper didn't quite reach the bottom sides of the box, so I punched two scalloped border strips (one for each side) from Lily White cardstock and glittered them with Lily White Sugar Coating.

For the rim of the box, I wanted two different patterns between the actual rim and the sides.  I knew that cutting the paper only to the actual size of the rim would create a gap where the two papers joined.  So, I added a little extra to my measurement and then made a score line so that it would fold around the edge.  I cut small slits into the hangover paper and then glued in place (see below):

Next, I traced the side of the box onto patterned paper and then attached.  For an extra decorative touch, I glued on red/green/white twine from the Christmas themed pack...just use a fine point glue pen...it works like a charm!

Last came the decoration.  I covered the 'flag' with a red patterned paper and then glittered with Ladybug Sugar Coating.  I layered the Santa sticker onto a scalloped die cut and then adhered to the front of the flag.  One of the cute paper bows was added, along with the "Merry Christmas" sentiment sticker.

Inspired by Pinterest: Monique's Thankful Layout

I think this was one of my favorite Doodlebug assignments to date: "Search through the Doodlebug Pinterest pages for ideas. Create something that is inspired by a PIN you found on the DB boards."

This was so much fun! There were so many fabulous Doodlebug projects to look at. I took me forever to even start looking for one to use for this assignment. I just kept looking at all the fantastic projects.

In the end I decided to narrow down my search to projects of only one person. I chose a design team member who has a completely different scrap style than I have: Sherri Cartwright. I have always loved the backgrounds of her layouts and wished I could do that too (but was afraid to try).

So that's what I did and this is the end result: An "I am thankful for family and friends" layout with a mixed media background.

and some close-ups:

The background was created using a TCW template (chicken wire it's called) and lots of gesso. When the paper was dry again, I sprayed on three different mists and used a tissue to whipe off the excess. As I had some problems getting my paper "straight" again I trimmed half an inch of all sides of my cardstock and machine stitched it to a patterned paper. This way my layout is not so "wavy" any more.

And now you probably want to know which PIN I was inspired by? Here it is:

Except for the painted background, I also incorporated the twine and the little bits and pieces that are "randomly" spread over the page in my layout. I really like how this turned out and will definitely try this technique again. Hope you like it too!

If you ever feel like using one of the Doodlebug projects for one of yours don't forget to show us, for example on Doodlebug's facebook page! We would love to see it!

Thanks for visiting Doodlebug's blog! Happy scrapping!

Soup Can Treat Containers

Do you love creative ways to give gifts and treats? If so, then you will love Lori Allred's latest Inspired by Pinterest episode where she shares how simple it can be to recycle your pop-top soup cans into creative new treat containers. Then cover them with the darling Doodlebug Design papers and embellishments from the Home for the Holidays Collection, Happy Harvest Collection and the Halloween Parade Collection. Scroll down to see the video.

If you'd like to see what pins inspired this project, be sure to check out Lori's blog.

(POST FILMING NOTE: Originally Lori recommended E6000 to adhere lid to can, but
later learned it makes the candy taste strange and now she suggest using your
hot glue gun instead and NOT the glue mentioned in the episode.)
