PETITE PRINTS MEMORIES LAYOUT | with Brianna

Hey friends! Brianna Lepper here today sharing a layout focusing on the new Plaid and Polka Dot 12x12 Rainbow Petite Prints. I paired it with the Over The Rainbow collection and pulled out the coordinating colors to match it. Here's my page:

Here are the colors I used: Swimming Pool, Bubblegum, Tangerine, Bumblebee and Citrus. To start, I cut two 12 x .5"inch strips of each color and then trimmed one strip down to three 4 x .5"inch and the other strip to four 3 x .5"inch strips. I wanted to be able to display both sides of the paper so I folded them in half at somewhat of an angle. I went ahead and set them aside and got to work on my background.

For my background, I took a piece of thick white cardstock and stamped the rainbow stamp from the Gnome Sweet Gnome stamp set using some Distress Oxide inks in coordinating colors. I chose Peacock Feathers, Picked Raspberry, Mustard Seed, Carved Pumpkin and Twisted Citron. I stamped the rainbow several times and then did some ink blending right over the stamped images. So pretty!!

I then traced a vertical line down the center of my page and lined up each folded paper along each side of it. I adhered each one down and then ran the page through my sewing machine. I love all of the texture that it added to my page. For my title, I chose a few pieces from the Chit Chat pack and popped it up on foam tape. I added it under my photo that I had matted using the 6x6 Paper Pad.

Next, I embellished tone on tone using the Mini Icons Stickers, Puffy Icons Stickers, Rainbow Sprinkles and the Spring Garden Shape Sprinkles.

I wanted a couple more pops of black that would match my title, so I stamped out a couple of phrases from that same stamp set on the top left and bottom right of my design. I also added in some tangled thread to match each color. Here's one last look at this colorful page.

Thank you so much for stopping by today, I hope that I've inspired you in some way. Have you tried creating a simple stamped background or tried adding folded paper like this to your page? It's a great way to get lots of pattern or color onto your page. I've done it using a circular design and now a vertical line. It would be fun to do it on a diagonal as well! See you next time friends!

Guest Designer - Otterly Adorable Layout | Christine Meyer

Hi there Doodlebug Fans! Christine from Scrapping with Christine joining you for the final project today!  I have had a blast playing with the So Much Pun Collection!  One of the things that really stands out about this collection is all the little every day moments that you can capture with it! Today I am going to showcase an "otterly adorable" little boy in a colorful layout.

I was absolutely drawn to the otter elements in this collection, because they were adorable but also unique!  I can't remember seeing a cute otter in a collection before and this one was irresistible - so I ran with it!  Pool pictures made it even better because it tied in the water element!

Close-Ups

This cut apart piece from the patterned papers made the perfect complement to my two pictures - finishing out the line perfectly.  Heart embellishments took center stage - first in my stitching, then in stickers!  I had to give each otter a heart to hold too - they just looked like it belonged there!  I popped those up with foam adhesive to add some extra dimension!

I was thrilled that there was a big "otterly adorable" in the Chit Chat Odds & Ends - it made for the perfect title!  Layers of patterned paper made for a quick and easy background with some amazing pops of color calmed down by the print!

Otterly Adorable Process Video

The process for today's layout is also captured in video over on my YouTube Channel.  I always enjoy talking thru the projects and explaining my design choices.  Check it out and say hi over there!

Thanks so much for joining me today - hope you are having  "So Much Pun" playing with this collection too!

Stitching Challenge: Birthday Cards by Wendy Sue

Hi there friends, it's Wendy Sue here today, sharing a couple of birthday cards I created for the "stitching challenge."  I sure love the doodle twine and it's perfect for adding some stitched details to any paper project!

The Dragon Tails collection is just my favorite for boy cards lately, but I love how a bit of stitching adds so much! Here's a closer look at each card.

And the other card:

Stitching Challenge: Cards by Courtney

So I was reallllllly excited about this challenge... and then I sat down... and drew a blank. Does that ever happen to you? Courtney Lee from Court's Crafts here with some inspiration for YOU hopefully! tee hee.

I actually got my inspiration from the cover of the doodlebug catalogue.

I love the vertical rainbow on the front and it always gets me really excited to keep scrolling through or turning the pages to oodle over new adorable products.

I had been hoarding this adorable glitter unicorn for a while now and really wanted to make it the star of a card all by itself but nothing had suited. This was the perfect time for the two to really shine: the twine and the unicorn. I loved that it came with those adorable sparkle stars too!

The balloon card seemed obvious but I had only glued down my twine without stitching it in and have been wanting to try a stitched balloon tail for a while now. I was happy to try this one and realllllly liked the results because there is a different texture to it when you stitch it in.

I only had the blue balloon there at first and then added in the other two later.

The stars were left over from the doodle-pop that I used on the unicorn card. Waste not, want not. :)

Stitching Challenge: School Girl Layout by Mendi

Hello Doodlebugs!  It's Mendi here today with a fun layout using hand-stitching with baker's twine.  As we transition to back to school I thought it would be fun to document some photos from a few years back.
Doodlebug Design Cherry Themed Layout by Mendi Yoshikawa using Stitching with Baker's Twine
I took my inspiration from a cherry sequined top my daughter is wearing and die-cut just the cherry portion from the background of my page using THIS cutting file.  I then cut a generous piece of red cardstock an inch or two larger than the cherries.  I covered the entire piece of cardstock with adhesive using my ATG gun and added rows of Doodlebug's ladybug sequins, leaving the outside edge without sequins so I could adhered it to the back of my page.

When I was done, I added the remaining die-cut pieces cut using Doodlebug's Petite Prints papers and stitched around the outside edges with green and red baker's twine.

To create my title I first printed it out in Microsoft Word using the Clicker Script font.  I then used some washi tape to temporarily adhere it to my layout and "traced" around it using my paper-piercer to form my stitching holes.

Here's a finished look at my title using Doodlebug's solid white baker's twine. I learned as I went that it helps to make the spacing between your holes a little larger and deeper to keep the thread from getting stuck and to keep the paper from tearing.  If my paper ever tore, I simply added some packing tape to the back and re-stitched that spot.  ;)

Thanks so much for visiting the blog today.  I hope I've inspired you to try some hand-stitching on your own projects.  It's seriously addicting!

Stitching Challenge: Beach Babe Layout by Kathy

Hi Everyone!  It's Kathy today with my Stitching Challenge project!  The Doodlebug Design Team members were challenged to create a project where stitching with Doodlebug Twine was the focus.  I decided to create stitching files on my Silhouette using the adorable Doodlebug Cut files!  Take a peek...

Since I wanted my stitching to be the focus, I kept my layout pretty simple...a grid design using some Gingham Linen Petite Prints and a few shaped sprinkles as embellishments.  I stitched using some Doodle Twine in Bumblebee, Coral (from the Spring Assortment, Bubble Blue, Swimming Pool, Bubblegum and Blue Jean.  Here are some close-ups of the stitched squares...

For these squares, I used the Silhouette cut files Sun- Fun in the Sun (here in Lori Whitlock SVG shop) and Clouds Spring Things (here in Lori Whitlock SVG shop)

The shell file is the Pearl Shell -Under the Sea Silhouette file (here in the Lori Whitlock SVG Shop) , the waves I created myself.

The sand dollar was created using the Sand Dollar Under the Sea Silhouette file (here in the Lori Whitlock SVG Shop),  The starfish is the Shell Under the Sea file (here in the Lori Whitlock SVG Shop) and the fish is from  Fish - Anchors Aweigh file (here in the Lori Whitlock SVG shop).

I finished my layout with a simple title using some Skinny Alphas in Swimming Pool and some Stickers from the Under The Sea Icon Sheet.

And now something for you!  I put together this video tutorial showing how I created the stitch files using my Silhouette and Doodlebug cut files.

That's it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek!

Stitch Challenge: Planner Love with Twine by Jomelle

Good Morning Doodlebug Fans! Jomelle here. Today I'm sharing my Stitch Challenge Project. This was another challenge for me because I had to think of a way to incorporate stitching using twines into my planner.

I decided to use the Bright assortment Doodle Twine. I manually add the holes by using the biggest needle I have at home and then I will thread the twines through.

Okay here we go. I wanted to try it first on the cardstock. I decided to use 2 different twine colors. Since I had to manually add the holes myself, it wasn't so easy to make the lines straight.

Here is the end product. I wanted to write something for my husband for his birthday. I punched holes on the side so I can add this note to my planner. Of course I will have him read this note on his birthday.

Here is my Monthly Layout for September.

I actually love how my stitching turned out on this layout. Since there were straight lines on the monthly, adding the holes in a straight line were easy to do.

For the blue lines next to the word September, I used a pencil first to draw in the swirl line then I added the stitching.

The stitching project was challenging but super fun to do. I actually poke myself with the needle couple of times, but so worth it. Thank you for stopping by. Have a nice day!

Stitching Challenge: Warm My Heart Layout by Karen

Hi everyone! It's Karen, and today I get to share with you a layout I created for the fun DT challenge we have going on right now - it's all about stitching! Now, I have to admit that I love to pull out the sewing machine every now again (more on fabric than my paper project though), but adding a stitching detail, either by hand or as a faux embellishment, is a regular part of all of my projects! I love the texture it adds, and there really is so much that you can try!

This little layout featuring my youngest daughter together with my favorite Cream & Sugar collection, was the perfect layout to get out the needle and thread...er....doodle twine! I had a really top heavy grouping that included the photo and so other fun elements, so I needed something to balance out that part of the layout.
So I used a ruler and a pencil to sketch a variety of lines spaced randomly and of a variety of lengths to fill the sace below the picture grouping. Then I grabbed a large pin, and pierced along the lines every 5mm. When I use twine to stitch, I like longer spaces between holes so you can really see the white and colour in the twine. Then I got out the trusty needle and stitched away with some cute Swimming Pool coloured doodle twime from the Brights Collection. I finished off each row with a small Swimming Pool Glitter Sprinkle and then added some die cuts from the Cream & Sugar Odds and Ends pack with some foam adhesive.
Now, I know the challenge is all about stitching, but I could help but feature one of my other ways to use twine on my layouts! I am a huge fan of Doodlebug's mini paperclips - they make their way on to every Doodlebug layout I create. But sometimes, they get a little bit lost with all the fun patterns and embellishments. So grab out little hero, and tie on a little bow! Voila - cute clip with the texture to stand on it's own! oh, and how cute would this be in a planner?!
Okay, there are so many little parts that I love about this layout! This collection has seen a lot of time out on my crafty table, and this coffee/baking themed collection is the perfect one to feature some baker's twine - don't you think? I hope you've been inspired to add a bit of stitching to your next project!
Thanks for stopping by! Hugs, Karen
