CHRISTMAS MAGIC GINGERBREAD ADVENT CALENDAR | with Kathy

Have you ever seen something in a store and said to yourself, "I could totally make that...?"  I always say this, but do I ever really make these items... not so much!  This year I saw the cutest Advent Calendar in a popular home furnishings catalog.  It was a "mountain" of little houses one for each day of December ...all lit up.  I decided I would make a Gingerbread House version using Christmas Magic!  Take a peek...

This was so a labor of love, but I'm thrilled with the results.  I started by making 25 of the little houses from some Kraft Petite Prints.   I thought they looked like gingerbread!  I added the little roofs using the papers from the Christmas Magic 6x6 pad.  I then set to decorating each of the houses using some Christmas Magic Doodle pops, Icon Stickers, Mini Icon Stickers and some of the Shaped Sprinkles.  Here are some close-ups of the individual houses...

For the doors I used Sprinkles Vellum.  The doorknobs on all of the houses are Peppermint Twist Shaped Sprinkles and the numbers are the Abigail Alphabet Stickers.   The layers between the houses were made from some Lily White Sugar Coated Cardstock.  All of the houses are "velcro'd " on so I can easily disassemble and pack away after the holidays.  To light it up, I added some remote control tea lights behind the houses... they're perfect because they don't get hot!  Even better, the doors of each of the houses open to hold a little treat!

Have you made any projects using Christmas Magic?  Be sure to tag Doodlebug Design on Facebook & Instagram!  We would love to see your creations.  That's it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek!

Mix it Up Challenge: 3D Christmas Tree with Kathy

Hi Everyone!  It's Kathy today with my take on the Mix & Match Challenge!  One of my favorite things about Doodlebug collections is that you can always mix and match to fit your project!  I mixed 3 different Christmas Collections to make this fun tree...

To make the tree I used the SVGCuts Heirloom Christmas Tree.  It reminded me of the ceramic tree we used to have growing up!!  The tree itself was made using Tree Festival Double Sided Cardstock from the Milk & Cookies Collection. The base of the tree was made using Holly Days Double Sided Cardstock from the Sugarplums Collection and the plaid paper panels are made from the Holiday Cheer Paper from the 2013 Home for the Holidays Collection.  It doesn't matter that they are 3 different collections spread over 4 years, they all coordinate perfectly!  Here is the tree lit up, (yes, it even lights like the old ceramic tree!) and some close ups of the ornaments I made using some Shaped Sprinkles and Cute Clips!

The star was made from some Sugar Coated Cardstock in Bumblebee.

To make the ornaments, I either wrapped some jewelry wire around the shape or glued the wire to the back.  I used the Sugarplums Shaped Sprinkles, Candy Cane Shaped Sprinkles, Lily White Snowflakes Shaped Sprinkles and some Mini Hearts Cute Clips to decorate the tree.

It looks so pretty all lit up!  Be sure to drop by the blog next week to get more Mix and Match Inspiration!  That's it for me today, I hope you  have a wonderful holiday season!

3-D Candy Boxes Featuring Chevron Sugar Coated Cardstock

Hi Doodlebug Friends!  It's Wendy Sue here with you today, sharing another fun project featuring our chevron sugar coated cardstock!

I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out these fun candy-shaped boxes.  Cutting the sugar coated cardstock with my Cameo was easy - I simply used the same settings I use to cut regular cardstock.  I also used an extra sticky cutting mat - just to make sure the cardstock didn't move while it was being cut.

After I cut each of the boxes, I folded them up (according to the assembly instructions) and secured the ends with hot glue.

After the boxes were assembled, I added twine to each side to secure the "wrapped" style of the box sides.

Embellishing the boxes was quick an easy with the sugar shoppe pixies, sugar shoppe mini tags, and doodle twine!

These boxes are the perfect size for filling with treats, money, gift cards, or any other small gifts!

Creating unique gift boxes with the sugar coated cardstock is a fun way to add personality to your gifts!

Sugar Coated Cardstock & Hairspray!!

I promised you a quick tip for using Doodlebug's very glittery Sugar Coated Cardstock. My tip is HAIRSPRAY!

I'm not talking about Hairspray the Musical or movie...

I'm talking about any type of aerosal HAIRSPRAY....

If your Sugar Coated cardstock will not be touching any of your photos then applying a thin layer of hairspray actually helps keep the glitter from flaking off the paper and onto your project, clothing or scrapbook room. But who doesn't love a little shimmer when they shake?? Since we doubt hairspray is acid free it's best to not use this technique when placing near your photos, but I just did a darling mini book and I wanted to use the Sugar Coated cardstock as the outside cover and this worked perfectly. Just spray it from about 10 inches away and let dry then you'll notice that you won't have glitter anywhere but on the Sugar Coated cardstock!!!
